5/5 stars

I had the pleasure of being a part of the first supper club at ANDAAZ. From start to finish, the whole experience was a delight for the senses. Not only was the food delicious, but also the storytelling and cultural infusion was just as impactful.

I cannot recommend enough.

My partner randomly chanced upon this opportunity on Instagram, and as Bengalis deprived of home-cooked meals, we instantly signed up for it.

I have followed a few supper clubs previously, so I was excited to finally be a part of one. It did not disappoint! The food was so thoughtful and lovely, and the bhorta especially made me feel nostalgic about my grandma’s cooking. The subtle touches in the decor were well done as well.

Ultimately, people bonding over food (and eating with their hands) is not just a concept in my part of the world, but an everyday occurrence. I’m glad I found new friends in a new city over that same shared love!

By sheer luck and Instagram's grace, I found that the first edition of this experience was in Oakland on the same day me and my girlfriend were in San Francisco for a vacation. And an amazing experience it was, great authentic Bengali food with a touch of nostalgia, good talks and opportunities to meet new people. It was a truly wholesome experience.

ABOUT
LAUREEN

I grew up in a home where stories arrived at the table through spice, steam, and memory.

My grandfather's life as a diplomat carried our family across borders, and those journeys found their way into our kitchen through my mother's hands. Bengali dishes met Mughal (Persian) influences, transforming everyday meals into stories of faraway places, cultural exchange, and belonging. Long before I understood the language of migration, I experienced it through food.

Years later, returning to California, I found myself returning to those memories through cooking. My curiosity led me to farmers markets, neighborhood kitchens, and culinary traditions from around the world. Mexican flavors reminded me of coming into this world through San Francisco's Mission District. Travels to Dhaka, Mexico City, Nairobi, and Jakarta taught me to seek culture through kitchens and to understand food as one of humanity's oldest forms of storytelling.

Today, those influences come together through ANDAAZ.

This supper club is an exploration of memory, migration, and flavor—a place where heritage recipes meet new possibilities, where cultures collide and converse, and where every dish carries a story. Inspired by my Bangladeshi roots and shaped by the many places and people who have influenced my life, each menu is an invitation to slow down, gather together, and experience food as a living archive of who we are and where we come from.

For me, cooking has never been just about nourishment. It is a way to remember. A way to stay rooted. A way to honor the people who came before me while imagining what comes next.

Because sometimes the shortest distance between past and future is a shared meal.
